Project

Zeneca's biotechnology facility at Alderley Park required a supply of Water For Injection (WFI) and a pharmaceutical still was specified. The quality of the 1000 litre per hour make up water for the still was required to be better than 2 µS/cm and was required continuously 24 hours per day.

Responsibilities

Process feasibility studies, detailed process design, equipment specification, procurement, project management and commissioning supervision.

The treatment scheme comprises two 100% duty deionisation trains each consisting of a standard strong cation-strong anion deioniser followed by a strong cation polishing unit to produce water of, typically, 0.1 µS/cm conductivity. The treated water is continuously recirculated to maintain chemical and bacteriological quality and spent regenerant is neutralised prior to sewer discharge.
